P3 Law and our Legal System

We have read about and discussed the importance of having laws in our society. It is necessary to have laws in order to protect our rights to life, liberty and property. If rules and laws are not followed, then our freedoms are threatened. It is our each citizen's responsibility to know the rules and laws so that we can follow them. This applies to school, home and community. It is up to each of us to keep our communities safe and free from crime. What do you think about rules and laws? How do you think your life would be without rules or laws? Let me hear what you think?

P1 - Roles of Citizens

We've completed a lesson on citizenship and the many roles that we play as citizens. We show civic virtue when we work for the "common good" or the good of all citizens instead of focusing on what we personally want and need. What roles do you play as citizens of your nation, state, community, etc.? What type of citizen are you? Do you uphold your responsibility? In what ways do you work for the common good? Let me hear what you have to say.

P4 - Law and our Legal System

We have read and discussed laws that govern our society. Philosopher John Locke believed that we are born with the rights of life, liberty and property and the government is charged with the protection of these rights? What do you think about it? Does having laws create more freedom or less? Should you be able to exchange songs online without paying any money to the artist? If you were an artist, would you want to be paid for your creations or would you do it just because you like to? Let me hear what your thoughts are and what you've learned from the lesson.

P1 - Citizenship

Citizenship means being a member of a country or other group. When you are a member of something that means that you follow the rules of that group or organization. How do people become citizens of a country? What are some of the duties and responsibilities of being a citizen? What are the different roles that we play as citizens? Our government needs us to be good citizens by paying taxes, following laws, serving on a jury or in the military. Could America be a great country to live in if citizens did not perform these duties? What do you think life would be like if we didn't perform our duties and responsibilities as citizens?
